A letter to my studio... May 18, 2010

Hello Studio Family,

It's almost time to reopen!! I am so thankful for each of you who have been so supportive of me and my other students during this difficult time!  I am grateful for your willingness to continue with online lessons, making it possible for us to continue as a business! You all are amazing and I am really looking forward to seeing you in person!! Even though we've been online, I've noticed so much growth vocally for many reasons!  You've had time to work on your voice, you've taken care of your health, you've been able to focus on your goals, you've become more creative and have looked for opportunities to expand your talent!  I'm so excited though, to see you back and to offer what I can to keep you growing!

I understand by talking to many of you individually, that most of you will be coming back to in-person lessons! There are a few who are staying with online lessons for various reasons, at least for a while, and that is also great! However, with so many people coming back, I want to make sure everything is exactly in place the way it should be to keep us as healthy as possible.  I will be teaching a lot of lessons and I will be working to keep things moving easily and efficiently as you come and go.

Here's where we are as of today. We are simply waiting on glass. We are required to divide the room with a plexiglass divider, like you are now seeing in the stores.  We haven't been able to find a piece of plexiglass in stock anywhere that is big enough, so we've special ordered a piece of 1/4" tempered glass, which is being framed into a custom cabinet which will surround my keyboard. The cabinet/frame is being built this week, and we are expecting the glass to arrive end of this week to mid-week, next week.  As soon as it comes in and is in place, I will send out an email saying I am opening immediately. Everything else I am doing to make the place clean and safe is already in place. Of course, coming in person is not ever required, online is fine, just let me know where to find you at your lesson time.

As for lesson scheduling, I wanted to let you know that I am working on Fridays in Oak Hill at Orb Studios with Matt Noveskey.  I have moved all my Friday Hutto students to other spots.  That has left me with very few open spots for Hutto, the rest of the week. If you have taken a break through the COVID-19 quarantine, but are wanting to come back now that we are opening back up, I encourage you to check the calendar ASAP and find a spot that works.  I have had a number of new people ask about lessons as well and they are wanting to start coming, so any open spots will be gone soon.  For those who want to come to Orb on Fridays, that is great.  I do need to tell you that the price per lesson is $5 more at Orb, because I have to pay PCG/ORB for use of that space.  Just let me know, and we will work out the details.

I am also required to have a waiver, so this email includes a link that you can open, read and print out the last page to return to me either by email or at your first lesson back.  I'll need one per singer. Please email back to vocaledgestudio@gmail.com.  It is a slightly long read, though, sorry! Just trying to be very transparent. The first page explains the risk of singing these days.  Page two tells you what I am doing to prepare.  Page three lets you know what you need to do to help us stay safe, Page four is the form that needs to be signed and returned. We know there are risks involved with anything we do, but especially during these days, since singing is considered a "high risk" activity during this season, we need to be aware and I have to take responsibility for my studio.  Honestly, I never imagined the thought of sending our liability waiver for singing/voice lessons or event the awkwardness of having to take temperatures, but we live in different times.  I thank you, in advance, for your cooperation and understanding.

Let me know if you have questions,

Laurie
